We engage with more than 200 women farmers
The project has a strong gender component and more than one-third of the identified farmers are women in all the project activities.
The women farmers were oriented and trained up towards community seeds bank prior to establishing it. After setting up the seeds bank in the project village, women farmers visited the seed bank location and then actively participated in opening the seeds bank account.
Women farmers are actively participating and helping in running the seeds bank by accessing seeds as per their wisdom through opening seeds bank accounts. After harvesting the crops (pulse/oil seeds), they are also depositing (double of what they received) to the seeds bank through the same procedure.
We have also encouraged men/women farmers to participate (virtually) in meetings that highlight gender dimensions in agriculture, family, society and politics. Interdisciplinary workshops have further strengthened the gender component and increased women’s participation not only in the project but in their families, society, economy and politics.
295 women farmers participated actively in the seed diversity fairs and benefitted.
